Changing the IT Landscape in Jaipur — Now with Wipro

November 15, 2016 Manpreet Singh

Before joining Appirio in 2013, I had some interesting cloud services gigs, from Salesforce implementations to building and Amazon-based business process platforms/accelerators. Relocating from Delhi to Jaipur with my wife and 2 school-aged kids was a big move, but my strong belief that Appirio brings game-changing capabilities (e.g., 100 percent cloud commitment, Cloud Enablement Suite, born-in-the-cloud Appirio Way Delivery Methodology, digital transformations) made it an easy decision for our family. It was also an amazing opportunity to promote change in Jaipur’s IT landscape, and I am humbled to see that come to fruition.

Building Appirio Jaipur

One question I’m often asked by customers, friends, and job candidates is: Why did Appirio pick Jaipur to open an office? Even though my answer to that question has evolved over the years, the core theme remains the same: Appirio believed Jaipur was a great location for top IT talent, and has since perfected the science of grooming/scaling next generation, free-thinking consultants born 100 percent in cloud-based technologies like Salesforce, Workday, and Google.

Today, Appirio is the most sought after IT employer in and around Rajasthan. Our highly experienced management team has focused on grooming talent in cloud and digital technologies, and our people pride themselves on the Appirio values of customer, team, and fun. Since opening, our office has expanded to over 400 consultants, and our people are collaborating seamlessly across functions, practices, and regions. We’ve focused on empowering and engaging employees through activities like Jaipur Express (our annual cultural event), sports leagues, AppirioOrator (a public speaking forum), Girls in Appirio (focused on career development for women), and Appirio Silver Lining.

Joining the Wipro team

As part of the acquisition process, I had the unique opportunity to interact closely with the Wipro team, and to visit their world-class delivery centers across India. It quickly became evident to me that culturally, the organizations are synergistic (see Glenn Weinstein’s blog), and that Wipro’s values (intensity to win, act with sensitivity, and unyielding integrity) align well with our own.

Teams across Wipro’s ranks are nimble, agile, ambitious, and want to democratize the cloud/digital competitive landscape to compete with companies like Accenture and Deloitte (see Hiral Chandrana’s blog). With Wipro’s scale, we’ll be able to make an even bigger impact in the Jaipur area by creating more good jobs. We’ll also be able to provide our existing talent with access to more career options — both within India and internationally — and with a world-class training infrastructure built around industry verticals and technologies.

It was during that initial tour of Wipro’s development center that we started to get really excited about joining forces. Since the acquisition was announced, we’ve received some great customer and analyst feedback, highly positive media coverage, and excitement across our partner ecosystem — which leaves me even more encouraged. As our CEO, Chris Barbin, said in his blog, “We’re not going anywhere but up — and back to number one.” Along with the entire Jaipur team, I am fully charged, ready to run, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
