Birds of a Feather Flock Together: The Appirio Guide to Traveling in Style

November 9, 2018 Derek Heim

Traveling effectively is crucial to industries in today’s marketplace. Organizations need their workers to positively represent their brand at client sites, conventions and other professional. Although traveling is considered to be a fairly mundane task, not everyone has exclusive access to the people who know how to make travel convenient and effortless. Luckily, Appirio does. After hearing about — and painfully experiencing — the difficulties that traveling workers face on a near daily basis, we decided to do our own investigation into how Appirians make traveling work for them.

After many interviews, dozens of questions, and a few relived travel horror stories, we’ve come up with five helpful tips and tricks to make traveling for work not only fun and efficient but also beneficial for both you and your organization.

Tip 1: Take care of yourself!

When traveling in any form, taking care of your physical health is crucial. The last thing you want at the beginning of your business trip is to feel queasy sitting next to a crying baby on a flight! Hydration and Emergen-C are key to ensuring that your body is ready to travel, and thus you are ready to work.

Tip 2: TSA Pre-check is a HUGE plus!

Time is a sensitive matter, not only in the business world, but also in the travel world. You never know when the next wave of passengers may be coming to fill up the security checkpoints at TSA. Investing in this feature may be what turns your trip from bad to good! Plus, getting through security is a breeze since you don't have to take your shoes off or remove your laptop.

Tip 3: Always prepare for your flight!

Do you enjoy running around your office, not knowing what you should be doing or what to do next? No? Then you won’t like it when you’re in the airport trying to catch your flight. Know exactly where everything is at all times, and double-check for both your ID/Passport and your phone when leaving your house. We all know that we can’t get far without these.

Tip 4: Bring entertainment

Flights can be long … super long. Depending on where you will be traveling for work, you could be on the plane for more than 24 hours. Do you think you could sit in silence that whole time and not get a little stir-crazy? Make sure to bring whatever you need on the flight in your carry-on with you. Books, music, snacks — the works! With your Doritos in one hand and a good book in the other, you will be ready to sit back, relax, and wait until you can safely deboard.

Tip 5: Plan your perfection!

When it comes to effective traveling, you need to know where you are going to be and what you are going to be doing at all times. Sure, you may want to take a day off and explore the new city, but you have to immediately get right back to work. Our advice? Make an itinerary, plan your outfits ahead of time, and triple-check your alarms.

If you’re like us and get nervous every time you are about to travel to an unknown city for work, take a step back and remember the basics. Planning for your departure and arrival can be the best way to ensure that your work experiences are all that they can be. Do you want to learn more about how Appirio’s culture stands out?
