“The future of work is about people first.”
Known internationally as an expert in the Future of Work and Change Leadership, Cheryl Cran excels in a field that welcomes only a select few. Her research and knowledge centers around work innovation and technology enablement. Her expertise allows her the unique opportunity to assist leaders in creating an exceptional Worker Experience (WX) and Customer Experience (CX)
During our Atlanta Worker Experience Tour stop, we sat down with Cran, our keynote speaker, to discuss how to fight a divided workplace. She explained, “The old style of leadership was, ‘if I’m a leader of a team, I’m going to hold all the information for myself, so that I can look like the rock star.’” But workers need to be open to letting go of outdated perspectives. Instead of siloing information from other departments, leaders should empower workers to share knowledge and data across the whole community.
Cran later reflects, “I remember Tom Peters saying productivity is ‘you’ve got to get your people to work harder!’” But technology has improved, causing a WX transformation. Cran explains that “50 percent of the workforce will be virtual in the next five to 10 years, so the only thing we can do for [worker] productivity is enable them with technology. Research has shown that people are happier when they have the tools and the resources to do their jobs at a higher level.” In the video below, Cran considers what productivity looks like, and how technology is helping people work smarter (not harder).
“We’re on the precipice of a major change.” Cheryl wasn’t joking. There is a strong correlation between enabling workers with the right technology, and a productive, healthy, collaborative workplace. Cran continues, “The future of work does not mean no people. What it means is people working together better.” In the video below, she discusses what a truly collaboratively agile company looks like.
Cheryl Cran crusades to help leaders worldwide develop their technologies and build collaborative atmospheres for workers. “Technology is the enabler of the Worker Experience and the Customer Experience. Leaders need to build skills and strategies that focus on people as the lead focal point,” she said. With her at the forefront of the movement, the Future of Work is sure to get here sooner.
